Steps to take after a Slip, Trip or Fall in MA
Helpful tips from a MA Slip and Fall Accident Personal Injury Lawyer
- Get medical attention immediately as necessary: See your primary
care physician or an emergency care provider to make sure you medical needs
are addressed.
- Identify what conditions caused you to fall: faulty steps? Un-shoveled
walk? Bumps in the pavement? Take photographs of the area and the hazard
that caused you to fall.
- Get information from any witnesses: If anyone else saw you fall,
get their contact information. Even if someone did not see you fall, but
came upon you afterwards and could help you identify or prove the cause of
the fall accident, also get their contact info.
- If it occurred at a place of business, speak to the business owner or
manager on duty. He or she should make a record of the incident. If the
manager says anything about being aware of the hazard, or previous similar occurrences,
make a note of this. Write down the contact info of the manager and whoever
made any such statement.
- Keep a diary: Make a notes about everything concerning the fall
that you can think of, as soon as you can. Continue to keep a diary about how
your injury has impacted your life, logging time spent going to doctors, lost
sleep, events missed, time lost from work, and any other negative impact
arising from your fall.
- Follow your doctors advice: complete all recommended therapy and
take all medication as your doctor prescribes.
- Do not sign anything: The property owner's insurance company may
ask you to sign a waiver. Speak with your attorney
first.
